Our Club celebrated its 11th year of consecutive British Tour events this year being sponsored by Boadicea the Victorious, a major luxurious perfume maker.
The event started on Sunday 12th August with Men’s-qualifying. The draw heralded a 64 qualifying draw followed by a 32 main draw. It was the 1st time this year a British Tour event had a full main draw. The Ladies qualification started on the Monday and again the size of the entry determined a full 48 qualification draw followed by a 32 main draw.
In the run up to the tournament the Club received an email from Richard Joyner, describing our Tournament as the ‘stand out’ Event on the British Tour.
In congratulating Freya Christie & Neil Pauffley, winner of the Ladies & Men’s singles events it was worth noting the performances of many STSC members. In Ladies qualification Dani Hack won through 3 tough rounds to reach main draw. A huge achievement. Unfortunately she was then drawn to play her team mate & friend Jodie Lawrence-Taylor in the 1st round. Jodie won a good match before she lost to Victoria Allen, the no 4 seed.
Competing in the Men’s qualifying were STSC members, Ivor Mandic, Viktor Naydenov, Jack Caso, Josh Goodger. Brandon Murphy gained direct entry into the main draw. Josh Goodger qualified and Brandon made semi-Finals before losing to eventual winner, Neil Pauffley. This was certainly the largest representation the Club has enjoyed in Men’s/Ladies draws and our congratulations goes to all of them.
In addition our Club continues to raise significant sums of money for Charity. £4000 went to the Tim Henman Foundation & a further £3900 went to a combination of Cancer UK & The Sussex Cancer Trust. A magnificent effort by our members.
On behalf of the Tournament Committee, we would like to thank all members for their support and patience in what is a very good week for the Club.
