Victory for STSC Ladies v Putney LTC Sunday 22 April

Ladies 1st Team v Putney

Ladies 1st Team v PutneyIn stark contrast to our first match of the season, the weather was glorious for the second Ladies outing in Regional Team Tennis.  We fielded a team of 6 – Dani, Jodie and Lydia were joined this time by Laura Cazacu, making her debut this season and two of our newcomers to the team, Sally Pethybridge and Lucy Webber.  It had been decided to play on the top 4 courts this time – much appreciated by the spectators who were able to sit in the shade, but maybe not so much by the players as the temperature soared…

Making her singles debut, Lucy W clinically finished off her opponent for the loss of 1 game on court 4.  In spite of some lengthy chats at the changes of ends, she was soon joined by Lydia, for the loss of 2 games on court 3.  Dani and Jodie decided to make the most of the sunshine with slightly longer matches, each only losing 4 games, with Dani finishing a very competitive yet friendly match next and Jodie keeping the crowds entertained a little bit longer with her constant analysis of the game…

After a short break to recover, Dani was joined by Sally on court 2 and Jodie by Laura on court 1 for the doubles.  As a new pairing, Dani and Sally combined well and dropped only 2 games.  The “veteran” pairing of Jodie and Laura had a tussle against Putney’s first pair, but came through relatively unscathed – one of them was “tubed” at the net on one occasion – winning 6-3 6-2, giving the team their second 6-0 victory in a row.

Many thanks again to Chris Pike who had laid on a sumptuous summer buffet, and also to Jodie for her first cake of the season. Thank you also to all of the supporters at the weekend, the team look forward to your continued vociferous support throughout the summer!

Weather permitting, next weekend will see the Ladies travel to The Wimbledon Club for their 3rd match of the season.  The club is just opposite the All England Lawn Tennis Club so not too far to travel if any spectators would like an afternoon out – we would certainly welcome the support in what is likely to be a much tougher match. Our next home match is on Sunday 13 May v DL Purley.
