STSC & Coronavirus
Club Closure & Subscriptions
As you will all be aware from Karl’s communication earlier this week and the media generally; STSC has had to close its doors and courts to all members until further notice.
We regret that we have had to take this action. Initially we understood that the Government directive was to encourage outdoor activities, such
as tennis to continue. The latest advice and directive is to entirely close all facilities, for the greater good of our members and wider circle of contacts to help slow the spread of Coronavirus. Ultimately this will help minimise the pressure on NHS as they battle to cope with the strain on their resources and help to save lives – an outcome I am sure is supported by all of our members.
A huge thanks to Karl for his prompt actions throughout this period of change, trying to keep parts of the club open when the advice and guidance suggested we could and then managing the full closure process earlier this week. Thank you for keeping us well informed of developments.
In Karl’s earlier communication, he suggested a number of options to members, during the period of closure of the club. For ease of reference, I repeat these options below.
If you are someone who pays monthly and you want to stop paying while the club is closed, let Karl know by emailing him at firstname.lastname@example.org. We can pause your membership instead of cancelling it. This will reduce your monthly DD to £1. Then we can simply re-instate it when we're open again. If you cancel it from your end, you'll need to join the club again in the future.
So the options for everyone are: -
- If you want to pause a monthly membership, just email Karl at email@example.com.
- If you want to leave your monthly payment running, thank you, we are very grateful for your support.
- If you are someone who pays annually for membership and your membership has expired recently or is about to expire (which will be the case at the end of March for many members) - we won't ask you to renew your membership until we're open again. But if you would like to renew it anyway, let Karl know and we'll be very grateful.
- If you are mid-way through an annual membership, we will extend your membership by the length of time that the club is closed for.
Over recent weeks, Colin Whitehair, Club Secretary, Steph Bailey, Club Treasurer, alongside Tim Davies one of the founding Trustees of the
CIO have continued to work tirelessly ploughing through the huge administrative task of forming the CIO, dealing with the various
documentation required for the Trustees of the land at the Club and forming a new arm’s length Social Club, for our social members. I also take this opportunity to extend a huge thanks to the three of them in continuing to push this process forward to enable us to trade as the charity.
We are looking into the opportunity for any member wishing to continue with their monthly DD at the full current rate, or a part of any new annual subscriptions due and paid, to benefit from “gift aid” because of our new CIO status during the period of club closure.
I am delighted that over the past 12 months, Sutton Tennis & Squash Club has grown its membership by over 10% to almost 700 members and with the increased membership subscriptions, was continuing to improve its financial stability. Clearly, the club’s future is now in question as we wait to see for how long the club must remain closed. In the meantime, the Management Committee will maintain the club in good order whilst minimising outgoings and will update members re any developments.
In the meantime, on behalf of the Management Committee, our best wishes to you and all of your families and friends.
With kind regards
